The Board of Supervisors, facing a potential $90 million shortfall this coming fiscal year, directed County CEO Chandra Wallar to take a critical look at department requests to fill vacant positions. Funding sources, stability of the funding, and organizational changes will all be taken into account during the process. The move came at the behest of 3rd District Supervisor Doreen Farr, who brought a number of options to the board, including a potential hiring freeze. While this move is not a full-on freeze, supervisors said careful steps must be taken going forward in dealing with budget issues.
