[Update, Wednesday, 10:55 a.m.]: David Joseph Irwin is the victim’s name, according to a CHP release.

[Original Story]: A 27-year-old man from Riverside County died Monday after his Yamaha motorcycle collided with a Chevrolet truck and a big rig on southbound Highway 101 just south of Cabrillo Boulevard. A resident of the City of Norco, the man’s name has not yet been released pending notification of his next of kin.

The crash, which occurred at approximately 3:20 p.m., shut down the highway’s first and second lanes for about one-and-a-half hours, said California Highway Patrol (CHP) spokesperson Jonathan Gutierrez in a prepared statement. Details about how the crash took place weren’t released beyond the CHP’s statement that the three-vehicle collision involved the 2015 Yamaha, a 2007 Chevrolet truck driven by a 56-year-old man from Long Beach, and a 2013 Kenworth box truck driven by a 36-year-old man from Visalia.

Only the motorcyclist suffered severe physical injuries, which caused him to be transported to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital, where he died. Neither drugs nor alcohol are believed to have influenced the crash, whose cause is still under investigation, said Gutierrez in the press release.
