[UPDATE] Standoff Suspect Arrested; 101 Reopened

Authorities have arrested Los Alamos resident Ronald Carrari, 56, after he brought about an hours-long standoff — which led to about a 15-mile closure of Highway 101 in both directions — with Sheriff’s deputies after he reportedly threatened a family member. Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Kelly Hoover said the freeway is now reopened.

Just before 11 a.m., the department received a call about the alleged threat, Hoover said. When deputies responded at 12:15 p.m., Carrari barricaded himself inside of the Los Alamos home. He was believed to be armed. After hours of talking with him, authorities used tear gas around 5:45 p.m., which prompted Carrari to come outside. He was arrested and booked on charges of making criminal threats and resisting arrest. Hoover said more counts may come pending a full investigation.
