Coming on the platform heels of the first new Funkadelic album in 33 years, 2014’s three-CD Funkadelic set, First Ya Gotta Shake the Gate, and after guesting with Kendrick Lamar on To Pimp a Butterfly, George Clinton returns to peak form here with a big assist from veteran New York house producer Louie Vega. This remix is the perfect jam to soundtrack what seems to be an actual endless summer hereabouts. Offering nine versions of one song, and yet varied enough to never get old, “Ain’t That Funkin’ Kinda Hard On You” bumps along at the same tempo as the immortal “One Nation Under a Groove,” and, yes, that’s Kendrick Lamar rapping.
