2012 Fall Arts Preview
Independent Editors Round Up This Season’s Arts Highlights
As Santa Barbara’s Indian summer approaches, we here at The Santa Barbara Independent are gearing up for the heat in more ways than one. That’s because this fall is bringing with it a lineup of arts events that are, simply put, smoking hot. October marks the start of UCSB Arts & Lectures’ new season, which means more dance (Aspen Santa Fe Ballet), more film (Spartacus), and more live music (David Byrne and St. Vincent) for the masses. Want theater? Look no further than the Santa Barbara–born production of Food Confessions, which world premieres at the Lobero Theatre this Friday. And if it’s visual art you’re after, this fall brings the next installment of the Santa Barbara Contemporary Arts Forum’s annual Call for Entries show, featuring a healthy collection of work from some of S.B.’s best up-and-coming innovators.. The fall also brings with it the dog days of the Santa Barbara Bowl season, which closes out its concert calendar with some of its biggest acts of the year: Peter Gabriel, The Black Keys, and Bob Dylan. In the following pages, our editors share their tip sheets for this fall’s arts and entertainment highlights. For a full calendar of events, visit independent.com/events.
