About the Santa Barbara Polo & Racquet Club and Event PREMIERE Sponsor
Every Sunday from May to October, Santa Barbara Polo and Racquet Club hosts polo matches. The 104 year old polo club is the third oldest club in the nation. The polo field is 300 yards long and 160 yards wide, making it the size of nine football fields. Boasting 87 lush acres and welcoming world class athletes of the human and equine persuasions each year. Polo luminaries such as Tommy Lee Jones & Prince William have played here. Thousands of well dressed spectators arrive each Sunday for the matches at 1:00 and 3:00 where players battle it out for various USPA trophies, many of them for gorgeous decades old trophies and well known tournaments. Several team owners, called patrons, are 4th generation polo aficionados raised amid a polo lifestyle who now field a team for their children (of both genders – nearly 30% of the players are female).
The tone between matches at the stables is jovial with much boasting and teasing amongst the players, but the playing field remains a true battlefield.
The competitive nature of both man and horse is celebrated while the guests in the stands enjoy themselves, sporting their largest hats and uptown or casual attire.
Visitors can arrive with a picnic in hand and set up camp in our tiered grandstands or create a lush tailgating party fieldside, a polo excursion is exciting and is the place to see and be seen.
“We are the best kept secret in your own backyard,” says Alison Hansen, Event and Sales Director for Santa Barbara Polo & Racquet Club. “We welcome the public to come and enjoy a day out with friends and family for a relaxing and exciting afternoon of polo.”
