Seth Tedeschi silenced the San Marcos lineup on his way to a complete game one-hitter, and the Dos Pueblos High baseball team captured a 6-1 road victory over the Royals on Tuesday afternoon.
The Chargers opened the game with two runs in the top of the first inning and never trailed in a crucial Channel League contest.
“At the beginning, the fastball felt really good. It felt like I was throwing harder than I usually am because the crosstown rivalry fires the whole team up,” Tedeschi said. “In the first inning, scoring two runs just fired the whole team up and we rode that.”

Dos Pueblos right fielder Zach Gesswein racked up three hits in four at bats with three runs scored.
Alexander Hadja got the Chargers on the board with a sacrifice fly in the top of the first inning that scored Charles Potter. Dos Pueblos increased its lead to 2-0 when Nick Salcido was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.
San Marcos scored its lone run of the game and cut its deficit to 2-1 in the bottom of the second inning on a RBI groundout by Levi Monson that scored Quinn Melton, who walked to open the inning.
Dos Pueblos broke the game open in the top of the fourth inning. Gesswein smacked a triple to right field that brought home Charlie Potter, and Hadja followed with a single to left field that scored Gesswein, increasing the Chargers’ lead to 4-1.
“I told the boys after the game that it was probably the most complete baseball game this program has played in a while,” said Dos Pueblos coach George Hedricks. “That was just a complete team game, I think we did well in every facet.”
Gesswein and Hadja found themselves in the middle of the action once again in the top of the sixth inning. Gesswein singled and stole second, setting the stage for Hajda who singled to center field to score him. Two batters later, Mateo Saldana doubled down the right field line to score Hadja to put Dos Pueblos ahead 6-1.
“[Hadja] was hitting the ball behind [Gesswein] and when you have that kind of protection with Zach’s speed on the bases, it’s just passing the stick to the next guy and trusting them to get the job done,” Hedricks said.
Tedeschi continued to deliver strikes down the stretch and the Dos Pueblos defense was solid behind him as he retired the Royals in order in the bottom of the seventh inning to capture the complete game.
Dos Pueblos will play a make-up game game against Pacifica on Wednesday before the two teams complete their two-game set on Friday.
