Do you love holiday lights as much as I do?! Whether you visit ZooLights, take a Santa Barbara Trolley tour of lights, or do your own self-guided tour, the dazzling light displays around town this year are more spectacular than ever. One spot where I look forward to slowing down is the three-way stop where Modoc intersects West Mission Street, since I’m greeted by the sight of this sparkling Craftsman cottage all dressed up for Christmas.
Walking home from Ensemble Theatre’s performance of Million Dollar Quartet the other night, I happened upon this less traditional light display in the front yard of the home at the corner of Anapamu and De La Vina Streets. This awesome apparition is one of my favorite perennial neighborhood creatures. You may recognize her from Halloween, when I shared her spooky diorama here. This time of year, she’s donned a candy-cane-horned persona: decked in holly and mistletoe, and full of the holiday spirit!
Is Christmas a movie-going day in your family? I saw Wicked with my mom, sister, and son the day after Thanksgiving. Yes! A three-generational song and popcorn fest. I won’t give any spoilers — I really love going to see a movie with absolutely no friendly feedback — other than to say it is a very colorful film. I was delighted to run across this Architectural Digest article and video about how Wicked’s sets were created. Munchkinland used nine million tulips! Which is such a stunning achievement that even People Magazine covered it.
On our very own American Riviera, here’s an amazing house for sale that features a “hyperbolic paraboloid wood ceiling” — definitely a first for me. With floor-to-ceiling windows framing stunning views, it’s open today so we can check it out in person. Listed by Summer Knight — who is also our 2025 President of the Association of Realtors! — at $3,849,000, this intriguing beauty is open from 1-3 p.m. at 395 Loma Media Road.
