The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office has released the identity of the man whose body was found off Toro Canyon Road near Carpinteria on Wednesday morning. The deceased is 54-year-old Shane Craig Bandy of Carpinteria, according to a statement released Thursday by Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Raquel Zick.

Deputies responded to the area near Toro Canyon Road and Torito Road around 11 a.m. on Wednesday after receiving “a report of a man down,” according to Zick’s initial report on February 14. Upon arrival, sheriff’s deputies found the body of the man since identified as Bandy and temporarily shut down Toro Canyon Road from Foothill Road to Torito Road to conduct their investigation.

While deputies were originally investigating the case as a “suspicious death,” Zick said on Thursday that deputies now believe that the death “is not criminal in nature.” Bandy’s cause and manner of death are pending further investigation.

No further information was released by the Sheriff’s Office. However, detectives request that anyone with information about the death call (805) 681-4150.
