The fall prep sports season is nearing its climax as athletes dig deep to make their mark in league contests and postseason play.

Sagarika Manian of Dos Pueblos golf shot a 77 at the par 72 Soule Park course and captured her third consecutive Channel League Individual Championship. As a result, Manian was honored as SBART Female Athlete of the Week at Monday’s press luncheon.

Sagarika Manian is a three time Channel League Golf Champion.

Fresh off being named Dos Pueblos Scholar Athlete of the Year, Jaden Moore continued his stellar senior season by leading the Chargers in scoring in all seven games this week, including four goals each in victories over Righetti and Mt. Caramel. Moore also notched five goals in an 11-10 loss to Riverside Poly.

Jaden Moore is a potent scorer and lockdown defender for Dos Pueblos water polo.

                                                                           Phil Womble Award

Harry Hayman of Bishop Diego indoor and beach volleyball was honored with the Phil Womble Ethics in Sports Award, which is presented to student athletes who demonstrated the highest standards of ethics and sportsmanship.

Hayman maintains a 4.09 GPA and co-founded the first boys’ beach volleyball team in Bishop Diego history this season.

“When I read the criteria for the Phil Womble Ethics in Sports Award, I had the easiest choice of my coaching career. This award was made for Harry,” said Bishop Diego volleyball coach Jackson Stevens. “Harry has a unique personality and a character that fits the team sport of volleyball. His communication on the court is unmatched and his willingness to help others on and off the court is always present.”

Laguna Blanca Football Remains Unbeaten

The Owls improved to 7-0 this season with 52-12 victory over United Christian Academy of Rancho Cucamonga and will take on Santa Clara of Oxnard in their final regular season game on Friday night at 7 p.m.

Laguna Blanca’s 7-0 start is a school record. The Owls are ranked 17th in the state eight-man football rankings according to Maxpreps. Head coach Matthew Escobar brought 6’4” offensive lineman Eka Nayak, who is playing football for the first time as a senior.

“It is his first year playing and I don’t think you would think that once you saw the film,” said Escobar of Nayak, who has six sacks and three blocked punts thus far this season. “He is a guy that leads by example. The team really trusts him, and he has all the support of his coaches and teammates.”

Win and You’re In

The Bishop Diego football team has been in a rebuilding year of sorts with only two seniors on the varsity roster.

Despite the lumps the Cardinals have taken they can clinch third place in the Marmonte League and an automatic playoff berth with a victory over Simi Valley in their regular season finale on Thursday, beginning at 7 p.m. at SBCC’s La Playa Stadium.

The emergence of sophomore quarterback Tua Rojas and Sophomore running back Oscar Maiua have been key to Bishop Deigo’s late season resurgence.
