Today I attended the Indivisible Santa Barbara event at the Community Center. Representative Salud Carbajal attended, as well as several speakers from the health community. They spoke about what the repeal of the Affordable Care Act would mean to the services they offer tens of thousands of people living on the Central Coast.
At the end of the meeting, I asked Rep. Carbajal if he was planning on attending the Inauguration on Friday. I was extremely disappointed to hear him say he would be attending. After Donald Trump disparaged Rep. John Lewis, several members of the House said they were not going to attend. So far the number of representatives not attending is 60 and growing.
I am truly surprised that my representative in Congress would applaud someone who mimics the disabled, talks about grabbing a woman’s “p*y,” and during Martin Luther King week disrespected John Lewis. John Lewis will not be attending the Inauguration. Salud Carbajal has two choices: He could join the company of a civil rights icon and friend of Martin Luther King Jr. and make a statement about voting rights, the very rights that were attacked during the last election. Or he could attend an inauguration of a man who achieved office through the assistance of a foreign government, Russia.
