Open Letter to President Obama:
I am on federally subsidized (Section 8) housing, and I want to thank you for all the help I get. However, it is illegal to have any marijuana on the premises under Section 8 rules, whether medical or recreational. I do not smoke or do drugs or drink. California has now legalized marijuana for recreational use. My doctor has given me a medical note to smoke marijuana, but I am afraid that I will lose my home if I do so. It seems very unfair for it to be this way in America, as if I were a second-class citizen, forced to sit in the back of the bus.
My plea is to change the federal Section 8 rules so that I can smoke medical marijuana in California, where people are now allowed to smoke it recreationally. Please help those of us who live in the U.S. be treated equally. Why can’t a person with a disability smoke it for medical reasons if others can smoke it legally for recreationl purposes?
Please champion this cause. There are many of us who need medical marijuana.
