I am supporting Joan Hartmann for 3rd District Supervisor because she is a centrist in an increasingly polarized climate, and she has the background and experience to do the job. She is the right person to continue the excellent work of Doreen Farr.
Joan Hartmann is calm, diligent, fair, and a good listener. Additionally, she has the experience to excel as 3d District Supervisor. She has served three years as planning commissioner, and seen the inner workings of land use. Joan has worked extensively on water issues through public-private partnerships and has wide experience in negotiation. She led the effort for the Buellton Urban Growth Boundary ballot measure that gave voters the power to determine how much their city will expand, and she advised Goleta on a similar initiative.
Joan certainly understands the pressure that the Santa Ynez Valley is under from casino expansion driven by issues at the federal and state level. Joan has the background to navigate this horrifically complex labyrinth of power, money, and bureaucracy.
Joan will work tirelessly with the people of the Santa Ynez Valley, Guadalupe, Los Alamos, Vandenberg Village, and Isla Vista, as well as those in agriculture, to be responsive to their interests and make their communities better. The 3rd District is the most complex and diverse of the five districts. It will take a person who is collaborative (not someone who is more comfortable giving and taking orders) and who will represent all of the people (not special interests). Joan can do the job.
