Funded by an undisclosed settlement paid by Plains All American Pipeline — the company responsible for last year’s Refugio Oil Spill — the Chamber of the Santa Barbara Region recently launched FishSB, a two-year marketing and educational initiative aimed at ramping up sales of seafood gathered from the Santa Barbara Channel and bolstering the commercial fishing industry’s resilience to market fluctuations and regulatory challenges. Through advertising and restaurant consulting, the program will “get the word out that Santa Barbara is an active and diverse fishing port,” said UCSB biologist Kim Selkoe, FishSB’s newly appointed director, who will be collaborating closely with Commercial Fishermen of Santa Barbara.
