Fifty-four-year-old Kathleen Teisher of Carpinteria died Saturday night when she was hit by an Amtrak passenger train near the Carpinteria Train Station at Linden Avenue and 5th Street.
At approximately 6:50 p.m. on Saturday, the train was traveling southbound at about 50-55 mph and turning the corner into the station when the conductor saw a woman standing on the tracks, the Sheriff’s Office press release said. Although the conductor pulled the emergency brake, the train hit Teisher, who appeared to be trying to get out of the way. Pending the Coroner’s Unit’s investigation and toxicology report, the death seems to have been an accident, the Sheriff’s Office press release said.
