As Hispanic Heritage Month unfolds, Future Leaders of America — with headquarters in Santa Barbara and Ventura — was honored last week by the White House Initiative on Education Excellence for Hispanics, now in its 25th year. Dubbed a “Bright Spot” by the initiative, Future Leaders joins more than 200 programs nationwide that focus on “key education priorities for Hispanics,” according to a statement. Founded in 1982, the nonprofit focuses on leadership programs and pathways to higher education for kids from low-income families.
