On July 7, 2015, Santa Barbara County Deputy District Attorney Kevin Weichbrod received the 2014 Wildlife Prosecutor of the Year Award from the California Fish and Game Commission. Weichbrod was one of three prosecutors honored for their dedication to protecting natural resources by pursuing charges against poaching and pollution violators. Weichbrod was awarded for his prosecution of John Anthony Wilson, who, on multiple occasions, “was caught stealing crabs from other fishermen’s holding tanks in the Santa Barbara harbor,” said the District Attorney’s Office in a prepared statement.
