Public cleanups of oil-marred beaches are set for Saturday and Sunday, but people wishing to take part must first fill out an application at calspillwatch.dfg.ca.gov. The previous training session on Monday taught 95 people the mandatory Hazardous Waste Operations Emergency Response Standard (HAZWOPER, pronounced “haz-whopper”) for chemical release sites. A second training session takes place Thursday, and registered volunteers will be contacted about beach dates and locations.
