Ten years after purchasing the rundown Carpinteria Camper Park, People’s Self-Help Housing is just about ready to hold a lottery to determine who will live in the new, affordable townhouses the nonprofit has been building there for the past year. The pre-application process for Casas de las Flores has already drawn 200 interested households, and the lottery will determine which applicants will begin to be screened for the 43 units, which are due to be completed in September.
Among the requirements is a rent-to-income ratio of less than 40 percent for qualified households. Several units at the 4096 Via Real property are designated for people with visual, hearing, or mobility impairment, and priority on a few other apartments will be offered to people without a fixed residence. The pre-application and qualifying details can be seen here, and pre-applications are due before March 31.
The lottery takes place on April 16, at 10 a.m. at the People’s Self-Help Dahlia Court II apartments, located at 1305 Dahlia Court in Carpinteria. For more information, see pshhc.org, emailinfo@pshhc.org, or phone (805) 781-3088.
