A wrong-way driver was killed Friday afternoon on Highway 101 at the Santa Maria River Bridge. According to the Santa Maria Times, the driver of a pickup with a camper shell got onto the highway headed northbound in southbound lanes when it slammed head-on into another car. At least two other people were hurt. The names of the victims have not been released. Traffic was backed up the area for some time after the 12:50 p.m. accident as the highway was shut down in order to land a rescue helicopter.
