I’ve never met anyone who immediately doesn’t like Alex Launspach, one of the most affable people you’re ever likely to encounter.

Don’t judge his appearance (he didn’t just roll out of bed) or usage of colorful language that’s straight out of a Tarantino film. Alex is a sweet man underneath and extremely knowledgeable about the glassblown art he sells as co-owner and manager of Fuzion on State Street. The hybrid retail store specializes in functional-yet-artistic glass pipes, underground men’s fashion, and street art, especially championing Santa Barbara’s own artists.

Recently, I stopped by to say hello at his lounge-like basement gallery, and witnessed a Montecito lady who is fighting cancer buy her first pipe. “Do not hesitate to call me at anytime of day if you have any questions,” Alex told her in his usual caring fashion.

I need to disclose that Alex is my partner’s son, and I’m extremely proud of this young man’s entrepreneurial spirit and strong sense of who he is.

He took time to answer the Proust Questionnaire.
