Tipping Scale for Justice

Thank you for your informative article on the Erick Roman trial. I happened to observe that trial from jury selection through Judge Hill’s sentencing. The most troubling thought I came away with was how the presumption of innocence may not always be understood by jurors in analyzing the evidence introduced during a trial.

I strongly question whether under current criminal court practice jurors are adequately trained for the important duty they are required to perform. Given this I recommend that those with the authority to do so consider establishing a basic jury preparation program. It would be an important part in ensuring that those accused of criminal acts receive as much unbiased legal justice as is humanly possible under our current judicial system.
