Athletes of the Week

SBCC cross country runner Alex Heuchert and Cate School volleyball setter Hannah Barr sparked their respective teams to big post-season performances over the weekend.

Heuchert finished fourth overall and led the SBCC men’s team to its best finish in program history at the Community College State Cross Country Championships in Fresno. The Vaqueros placed seventh in the team competiton, with Heuchert running the fastest time by a Vaquero on the 4-mile course at Woodward Park. The sophomore ran 20 minutes, 20 seconds and earned All-American honors.

Barr smartly mixed up her sets, helping Cate defeat Duarte in the CIF-SS Division 4A championship match at Cerritos College. The junior finished with 51 assists in the four-set victory, which gave Cate its first CIF girls volleyball title since 1991.
