The 16-year-old son of former lieutenant governor Abel Maldonado admitted to charges of vehicular manslaughter this week in connection with the death of 33-year-old bicyclist Matthew Troy O’Neill on Foxen Canyon Road in August. Marcus Maldonado also admitted to driving a commercial vehicle without a license and not complying with the terms and restrictions of new drivers. He was sentenced to formal probation, his driver’s license was suspended for nine months, and he was ordered to perform 100 hours of community service and pay $75,000 in restitution to O’Neill’s family.
