A White House–appointed task force composed of 26 members, including Supervisor Salud Carbajal, presented approximately 50 recommendations this week for how the federal government can help state and smaller governments prepare for the effects of climate change. The report — which features a picture of drought-stricken Cachuma Lake — focused on making communities more resilient and included suggestions found in several Lois Capps–authored bills. Of particular concern to Carbajal were efforts related to sea-level rise and drought. The list, distilled down from 500 ideas, will provide the “synergy, impetus, and momentum” needed to take planning to the next level, Carbajal said.
