Cate’s Peyton Shelburne played two strong matches for the Rams in the CIF Division 4A girls volleyball playoffs.

She posted 13 kills in a second-round sweep against Azusa and pounded a team high 19 kills in a 3-0 victory over Bishop Conaty-Loretto in the quarterfinals.

Abel Gonzalez sparked Bishop Diego to a 21-14 CIF football playoff victory over Antelope Valley in the Cardinals’ debut in the Northern Division. Gonzalez ran for two touchdowns and was a force on defense. He had seven tackles include a fourth-and-goal stop against Antelope Valley’s top running back. Bishop Diego plays at Atascadero in a quarterfinal game on Friday.
