First District Supervisor Salud Carbajal is looking to his constituents to fill seats on four county boards: the Montecito Planning Commission, the Montecito Board of Architectural Review, the Advisory Council on Alcohol and Drug Problems, and the Air Pollution Control District Community Advisory Council. Those interested in vying for the spots must live in the 1st District — which includes much of the City of Santa Barbara, Montecito, Carpinteria, and Cuyama — and must submit their applications by November 26 to either Carbajal’s office or the Clerk of the Board.

Applications can be accessed by clicking here. For more information, call Carbajal’s office at 568-2186.

The Montecito Planning Commission serves as the land use authority for the area, and the Montecito Board of Architectural Review — for which representatives must be architects or landscape architects — reviews projects. Those who sit on the Advisory Council on Alcohol and Drug Problems help advise the county’s department of Alcohol, Drug, and Mental Health Services. Community Advisory Council members work with the Air Pollution Control District’s board on policy issues.

“Serving on county boards and commissions is an excellent opportunity for members of the public to become actively engaged with local government by offering their insight and knowledge on critical issues affecting the quality of life in our community,” Carbajal said. “These specific boards and commissions are an opportunity for area residents to participate in the public policy process to address some of the critical issues affecting our quality of life, which includes community planning, addressing the impacts of alcohol and drug addiction, and clean air policies.”
