I am writing to register my great disappointment with The Independent’s endorsing the “no” vote on Measure P. This is the local equivalent of Obama endorsing the XL pipeline. And yet it is far from a local affair. Many eyes are watching how this vote goes — nationally and internationally. To make the argument, as you do well, that a “yes” vote is the right vote for the environment, and then turn face and endorse a “no” vote on the basis of the technicalities of how the measure is drafted, is confusing and feels disingenuous. It is not too late for The Independent to endorse a “yes” vote on Measure P. A “yes” on Measure P is a vote to protect our scarce and vulnerable water supplies, and a courageous and generous act of paying it forward for our grandchildren, and their grandchildren’s grandchildren.
