Father Archimandrite Gideon spent up to 14 hours a day for three days (and four hours) on a rented Genie lift — with meals brought up to him — while he repainted the Holy Resurrection Russian Orthodox Church at Victoria and Castillo streets. Father Gideon chose to do the work himself to set an example, saying it is really more of a jeweler’s job due to all the details. Father Gideon, who is Bulgarian, has made many improvements to the structure and its property — such as mending fencing, replacing flagstones, and adding new doors — that neighbors and photographing tourists alike have noticed. Next up, the inside gets painted in preparation for the churches 60-year anniversary next year.
