It’s a serious series time for Santa Barbara’s three college baseball teams. SBCC (23-13) will host a best-of-three series against San Bernardino Valley College (26-10) at Pershing Park. If the teams split their first two games today (Fri., May 2) and Saturday morning, a deciding game will immediately follow. The winning team will advance to another round of the Southern Cal Regional playoffs next weekend.
Westmont College strengthened its argument for a berth in the NAIA National Championships by eliminating No. 2 seed The Master’s from the Golden State Athletic Conference tournament Thursday. The 6-3 victory was Westmont’s 35th of the season, a new school record. The No. 4-seeded Warriors, who lost the opener to host San Diego Christian, play another elimination game today.
UCSB, with a strong overall record of 26-11 but only 7-8 in the Big West, plays three on the road against conference leader UC Irvine (29-14, 11-1). The opener at 6:30 pm Friday will be televised on ESPN3.
Instead of circling the bases, the Mission City Brawlin’ Betties will be racing around the hockey rink at Earl Warren Showgrounds in a roller-derby bout at 5 pm Saturday.
High school spring sports are going full bore through next week. See the schedule of home games below.
