The Santa Maria City Council on Thursday will hear the three appeals filed in response to the Planning Commission’s approval of a new Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility in town. The Planning Commission meeting saw thousands voice their opposition; the appeals — filed by homeowners, the League of United Latin American Citizens, and Community Initiatives for Visiting Immigrants in Confinement — allege the building will negatively affect the area’s health, safety, and property values, and be an eyesore. The hearing starts at 3 p.m. at the Santa Maria Fairpark.
