Goleta Awards $20,000 in Community Grants
The Goleta City Council awarded $20,000 in community grants at its meeting on Tuesday. In its twelfth year, the City Council awarded grants of up to $2,500 to nine community organizations that enrich Goleta and continue to enhance the quality of life for its residents.
“One of the highlights of being Mayor is the process of awarding the community grants,” said Mayor Michael T. Bennett. “I am grateful the City is in a position to fund these important programs and look forward to the time we can expand the grants to include more recipients.”
This year’s award recipients include:
Rotary Club of Goleta – Goleta Fireworks Festival
Goleta Valley Historical Society – Fiesta Ranchera and Music at the Ranch
Path Point – Employment program for people with disabilities or disadvantages
Food from the Heart – Provide food to families in Health Crisis
Friends of the Goleta Valley Library – 2014 Summer Reading Program costs
Dos Pueblos High School Community Programs – Scholarships for disadvantaged children/teens to take swim lessons & funding for internship program
Dos Pueblos Engineering Academy Foundation – FIRST Robotics Competition
Santa Barbara Wildlife Care Network – Funding for a part time animal care specialist for 2 months
Each year the City advertises the availability of these grants. The Mayor’s subcommittee reviews the applications, meets with the applicants, and makes a recommendation to the City Council.
The City acknowledges the service of April Medina-Watson and Laura Murphy as participants on this year’s selection committee.
