A 59-year-old man was killed last night in a traffic collision on Carrillo Street at Chino Street. Heading southeast on Chino Street, the victim — driving a red Saturn with two passengers inside — was turning left on Carrillo at around 8:30 p.m. went he was broadsided by a Chevy Suburban heading up the hill. “The Saturn initiated the turn movement in front of the oncoming Suburban,” said police spokesperson Sgt. Riley Harwood, “and the cause of the collision appears to be a right of way violation.” The Saturn’s passengers complained of pain and were transported to Cottage Hospital, Harwood said. It doesn’t appear drugs or alcohol played a factor in the incident, he said.
