DirecTV and KEYT’s parent company, News-Press & Gazette (NPG), seem to have buried the hatchet after reaching an agreement Friday that will bring NewsChannel 3 back to DirecTV subscribers. DirecTV customers throughout the tri counties lost KEYT’s signal on October 9 after the two sides came to an impasse in negotiations over a renewed rebroadcast contract.
Despite the positive result, a prepared statement released by DirecTV was anything but cordial regarding their disagreement. “While we are pleased NPG has restored the stations, we’re equally as frustrated that they took them away in the first place,” the statement read. “This is just another unfortunate example of broadcasters violating the public trust in an attempt to extract higher fees from our customers.”
The terms of the contract were not given.
KEYT also released a statement, thanking viewers for their patience and support. “We are pleased to announce that KEYT NewsChannel 3 has reached an agreement with DIRECTV for carriage of our signal. KEYT NewsChannel 3 will be returned to the DIRECTV service today.”
