It’s that time of year again: sorority sisters have teamed together to scavenge Halloween pop-up stores in search of polyester scraps. Some overly enthused students have already begun pre-gaming as the streets of Isla Vista emotionally prepare themselves for the atrocities and vomit to come.
UCSB campus officials have been hard at work as well, developing a parking plan that effectively allows certain student, faculty, and staff use of campus facilities while minimizing unauthorized use of campus parking for Halloween events.
Effective Thursday, October 31 through Sunday, November 3, the campus will be closed to public parking beginning at 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 a.m. the following day. To park on campus during these times, all cars must display a valid Reserved, ”A”, “B”, “RS”, Annual Night & Weekend Parking Permit, or special event permit.
In addition, access to El Colegio Road may be closed or blocked entirely for safety reasons, according to a press release sent to the student body Thursday morning. All other roads leading to I.V. will have checkpoints in place and proof of residency will be required to enter. Unauthorized vehicles will be denied access.
“We will be making every effort to ensure the safety and security of our students on Halloween weekend,” said Marc Fisher, UCSB’s Senior Associate Vice Chancellor. “This is a top priority for our campus.”
