Earlier this summer, the Racheros Visitadores presented a check for $80,000 in support of services for breast cancer patients to the Cancer Center of Santa Barbara with Sansum Clinic. Funds have continued to pour in since the initial check presentation and have now exceeded $100,000! Combined with generous support in 2013, the Racheros Visitadores have contributed over $167,000 in support of research and support programs for local breast cancer patients and their families. The Cancer Center thanks the Racheros for their ongoing and continuing support of breast cancer patients and programs and is encouraged by our community’s support of this important cause.
In the same vein, the streets of Santa Barbara and Carpinteria will turn pink this weekend. The Avon Walk of Santa Barbara, held on September 7-8, 2013 is a two-day walk covering 26.2 miles in support of breast cancer awareness and research. The Avon Walk has been a generous supporter of the Cancer Center’s Nurse Navigator program which provides coordination of care during a breast cancer patient’s experience – from breast health education and prevention, to diagnosis, treatment and survivorship.
The Cancer Center invites the community to support participants of the Avon Walk by attending a cheering station this Saturday morning, 7:30-9:00am as the walkers pass Free Methodist Church, 1435 Cliff Drive. Pink pom-poms will be provided by the Cancer Center, and community members are encouraged to wear pink.
