Andrew Murray Vineyards Watch Hill Syrah 2011: This deeply dark purple nectar — even the foam from an aerated pour reflects a violet hue — is a face-melting monster, with bacon fat and cinnamon maple on the nose giving way to rich, gripping tannins on the tongue.
It’s still a tad young and will probably evolve brilliantly over the next few years, but it represents yet another solid syrah from former young buck wunderkind-turned-Central Coast Rhône winemaking veteran Andrew Murray, who also makes a Tous Les Jours county blend that may be the best value for syrah on the market today.
