Do you love riding the rails? How about chatting with folks? If so, you may want sign up to be a Trails & Rails volunteer guide for Amtrak’s Coast Starlight line. Guides tell passengers about the route’s natural, cultural, and historical significance, as well as things to do at the destinations. There are two programs to choose from: a one-day Santa Barbara–San Luis Obispo round-trip, or a two-day trip to San Jose. Volunteers must be able to make an average of two one-day or two-day trips per month during the program’s eight-month period. Uniforms, program materials, travel, meals, and overnight lodging are all provided. Orientation training is Saturday, May 18. For more info, call (805) 964-3540 or email museum@goletadepot.org.
