Of only 18 $500 scholarships awarded to Girls, Inc. teens nationwide, a whopping five were locked down by members of the Carpinteria chapter. The scholarships, designed to support college-bound programming, rewarded the Carpinterians for their participation in Eureka!, a program in which young women spend four weeks over the summer (for five years) engaging in science and leadership workshops on the UCSB campus. The scholarship winners — Annalisa DeAlba, Ana Delgado, Jessica Irabon, Alisa Lemere, and Yulisa Rosales — were members of the first cohort.
