Among the hardest hit was Grace Children’s Hospital in Port-au-Prince, a vital resource recognized as Haiti’s leading medical facility dedicated to the treatment of children with tuberculosis (TB). 80% of the hospital had to be demolished. Each year, the hospital receives thousands of children–approx.300/day–who are suffering from TB, HIV and other diseases. Children who are seriously ill are admitted to the sixty-eight bed inpatient ward, where they receive constant care from the hospital’s all-Haitian Staff. People living in the slums around the hospital receive vaccinations, prenatal care, and other basic health services from specially trained community health workers and volunteers. Both children and adults can also be treated at one of Grace Children’s Hospital’s network of 127 community clinics serving urban and remote rural areas.
Church Partners With Community:
The First United Methodist Church of Santa Barbara (FUMCSB) is once again partnering with Via Maestra 42 restaurant to assist in the transformation of Grace Children’s Hospital as it rebuilds itself into a first class primary care center. Proceeds will go directly to the hospital and pay for hospital salaries, the hiring of additional and much-needed staff, water (all must be purchased due to poor in-country water quality), medications and supplies.
Benefit Info:
100% of your ticket price will go for Grace Children’s Hospital. This is possible because 100% of the fine Italian cuisine for the luncheon is donated by Via Maestra 42!!! The fundraiser “Feast” is a lunch buffet with multiple seatings catered by Via Maestra 42, a well known Santa Barbara Italian restaurant, located at 3343 State Street. The restaurant’s owner, Renato Moiso, is a member of the FUMCSB congregation where the “Feast for the Children” will be served: 305 E. Anapamu Street; corner of Anapamu and Garden. Renato promises a wonderfully sumptuous repast for a truly worthy cause. All are encouraged to attend to support the rebuilding of this vital Haitian medical resource. Grace Children’s Hospital functions independent of the Haitian government, and no funds are diverted. Charity Navigator gives them its highest 4 star rating.
