Last Friday night, Santa Barbara Independent reader Corinne Newton caught a rare glimpse of a special animal: a juvenile albino raccoon accompanied by its sibling and their mom inspecting a mouse trap on the back porch of Newton’s Miramonte Drive house. The trap wasn’t baited, said Newton, but the trio probably smelled the peanut butter that had been used. Albino raccoons are uncommon critters. Approximately one exists for every 500,000 individuals.
