It might be of interest that there is not one psychiatric pediatric bed between San Francisco and Los Angeles. When my 10-year-old grandchild became psychotic in San Luis Obispo, we sere advised by the psychiatrist to drive him to UCLA. The drive was horrific for all concerned. In the UCLA Emergency Room we were seen, and told that we might have to wait in ER for a day before a bed became available. Luckily we did not have to wait as he was on the cusp of the next age-group ward.
