What
As students prepare for the school year this Tuesday, campus groups at UC Santa Barbara are joining together to celebrate National Voter Registration Day and launch a voter registration effort aimed at increasing youth voter turnout. The coalition plans to register 10,000 voters, matching record-breaking 2008 levels to prove that students care about important issues on the ballot and are just as determined to vote this election year. Students will be out in vote t-shirts, with vote stickers registering voters with laptops and iphones to promote the Secretary of State’s new online voter registration website, which will make it easier for young people to register to vote at a time when other states are making it harder. CALPIRG (California Public Interest Group), the Associated Students, the Voter Registration Volunteer Coalition, the Campus Democrats, the Greek councils, and more are part of a coalition that is working to help 10,000 students register to vote in the next 31 days before the voter registration deadline
