SBCC gained approval this week to offer a degree in Construction Technology. The six-year-old program initially focused on residential construction, but quickly added courses—such as weatherization, sustainability auditing, and photovoltaic systems—to prepare students for green collar jobs. The program employs one full-time faculty member and five part-time faculty. Since the program’s inception, over 1,500 students, including dual enrollment students from local high schools, have enrolled. “Environmental sustainability and green technologies are the wave of the future,” said department Chair Patrick Foster in a release.
