Renovated as the first U.S. grocery store to use a 100% natural refrigerant in its system storewide, this Carpinteria store further demonstrates Albersons commitment to minimizing its environmental footprint, while offering the finest in premium meats, seafood, bakery, produce, floral and spirits.
After eight and one-half months of construction, regional and city officials are set to join community members, guests and ALBERTSONS associates for a special ceremony scheduled for Wednesday, July 25, 10 a.m., at the 1018 Casitas Pass Road store location.
“July 25th is a big day for us” noted Albertsons Southern California Division President Dan Sanders. “Our guests have been incredibly patient during our construction and we hope they’ll agree it was worth the wait once they see what’s new. Most importantly, we’re thankful for the chance to add 60 new positions to the store team,” he added.
Albersons Welcomes former Sheperd’s Pharmacy Employees to Store Team
The biggest change to the new 29,900 square foot store is the addition of an in-store Sav-On Pharmacy. Albersons purchased the former Sheperd’s Place Pharmacy business in 2011 and is excited to be welcoming 14 new pharmacy associates to the store team. “The familiar faces that Carpinteria residents have grown to trust with their pharmacy needs will continue to serve them,” emphasized Carpinteria Store Director Ahmed Jahadhmy.
A new service now available is pharmacy compounding. Compounded medications are “made from scratch” – individual ingredients mixed together in the exact strength and dosage form required by the patient. This method allows the compounding pharmacist to work with the patient and the prescriber to customize a medication that meets the patient’s specific needs. Guests will also find an ample supply of durable medical equipment including crutches, walkers, wheel-chairs, motorized scooters, medical bed sheets and other supplies necessary for those convalescing at home.
More Food Choices and Offerings
The Carpinteria Albertsons is your neighborhood grocery store. We’ve gone one step further by adding exciting new in-store features requested by our guest,” said Jahadhmy. The store team is proud of the new and expanded produce department that includes a greater assortment of fruits and vegetables, including organic.
Two additions to the service deli are the new Sushi Bar and indoor grill where guests can savor grilled vegetables, meats and rotisserie chicken ordered to go. Those looking for a quick meal will enjoy the new self serve salad, wing and soup bars.
Shoppers in the mood for something sweet yet healthy will definitely like trying the new smoothies, juices and fruit cups with Acai available at the new juice bar. With a focus on health and wellness, the Carpinteria store is also carrying a greater assortment of vegan and gluten-free products in select departments.
Wines, Spirits and Baked Goods to Celebrate with Style
Whether it’s a family dinner or a special celebration, selecting the perfect wine or spirit to match the meal is important. Guests of legal age and with proper identification will have a chance to taste the newest selections available through ALBERTSONS new mobile wine tasting station. Beer lovers will also find a wide assortment of craft and local beers. And what’s a party without cake? The Carpinteria bakery department can prepare an assortment of cakes and confections for every occasion.
Energy Saving Measures
Albertsons is pleased to be partnering with the U.S. Department of Energy Better Buildings Challenge (BBC) program. As a BBC partner, Albertsons has made a commitment to reducing energy use in the Carpinteria store by at least 20% by 2020. Some of the store’s energy saving measures includes water-saving faucets and fixtures, 45 skylights that provide a comfortable shopping experience while saving energy, and Light Emitting Diode (LED) lighting in the produce department and in all of the frozen food cases.
For its efforts in utilizing green refrigeration technology, the Carpinteria Albertsons was awarded the Greenchill Award and Platinum Level Certification on behalf of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (E.P.A.) Greenchill is an E.P.A. partnership with food retailers focused on reducing refrigerant emissions as well as decreasing their impact on the ozone layer and climate change.
Other new accommodations include indoor and outdoor patio seating areas with WIFI capability and a garden greenbelt area located in front of the store that will be dedicated to the Carpinteria Beautiful organization.
Albertsons was built upon the foundation of giving back to the communities it serves and is proud to continue that tradition with this grand reopening. In celebration, Jahadhmy and his store team will make donations to the Community Action Commission (CAC) Carpinteria Head Start, the Carpinteria Education Foundation’s Culinary Arts Institute and Carpinteria Beautiful.
The re-grand opening party will continue on Sat. July 28, starting at 10 a.m. with a “Customer Appreciation Day”. Activities will feature food samplings from local growers and vendors, a side-walk sale, Hula dancers, musical entertainment, free health screenings, and fun giveaways and prizes.
