I read the News-Depress piece on the Open Alternative fracas with a familiar dismay; another loudmouth fraidy-cat flying in homosexual panic from painted fingernails and other sordid symbols of the apocalypse. With this “story,” the content-starved News-Depress throws more red meat to the hunched Neoliths who favor drone strikes over same-sex handholding. Yes, the coveted “values voters.”
Cynically stoking the fires of stupidity and discord may sell copies of the wafer-thin News-Press but it makes our intermittently progressive town look like a bubbling tar pit. I would also remind [the complaining parent] that A) painted nails do not certify “homosexuality or femininity,” and B) a cursory glance at the world’s misery index tells the tale of bullying heterosexual jackasses laying waste to humankind with giddy abandon. Through the ages! Painted fingernails are hardly the problem and never have been. Rancor and brute stupidity are.
