Open House at the Spiritualist Church of the Comforter

Sun Mar 04, 2012 | 10:04am

The Spiritualist Church of the Comforter is inviting the community to become acquainted with the church as they celebrate the 164th anniversary of the Advent of Modern Spiritualism.

On March 31, 1848, in Hydesville, New York, the Fox sisters discovered their gift of mediumship by communicating with a spirit beyond the grave. In observance of this occasion, member churches of the National Spiritualist Association of Churches, as well as Spiritualist churches worldwide, will be commemorating this event.

To learn about Spiritualism’s history, the community is invited to participate in the following activities:

  • 12 p.m.: The Hydesville Players Present a re-enactment of the events of March 31st
  • 1 p.m.: Mediumship—A demonstration and spirit greetings
  • 2 p.m.: Spiritual Healing—Hands-on healing
  • 3 p.m.: Message Circle—Join the circle

Refreshments will be served all day. Although the public is invited to come and go at any other time, we will close the message circle shortly after it is formed at 3 pm.

The objectives of the National Spiritualist Association of Churches are to present our Declaration of Principles; to encourage lectures related to spiritual and secular welfare; to protest against compelling anyone to worship God in any particular or prescribed manner; to advocate and promote Spiritual healing; to encourage every person to be open to new truths and to follow their reason and conscience in spiritual and secular affairs.
