Working Double Duty: “When I first started working here,” said Mike Gahagan, The Independent’s Web content manager, “there was no online content. Whatever was in print was what it was.” Since then, the Web site has grown — along with his workload — to include exclusive news stories, multimedia content, and columns. With the rollout of our new site last week, Gahagan’s job isn’t getting easier, but without him mediating between our technophobic writers and the Internet, news-hungry Santa Barbarans would be at a loss. A West Marin native, Mike started spending his summers in S.B. when his father moved here in the ’80s. He also became a Lakers fan during his SoCal sojourns, where father and son bonded over Kareem, Worthy, and Magic. He’s confident that the Lakers can overtake the Clippers in the Pacific standings.
