The Santa Barbara Teen News Network (sbTNN) ended 2011 in a precarious situation. The signature program of the Patricia Henley Foundation needed $6,000 of public funding to maintain its nonprofit status. Overall, 25 individual donors as well as the Armand Hammer Foundation chipped in to provide the funds and make sure that sbTNN received over 33 percent of its funding from public sources, a requirement during its five-year probationary period as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. SbTNN will now be able to accept grants and continue to provide the community with a news program run by and for teens.
