Open letters to SBCC Board of Trustees:
I am an international student from Switzerland and I came here to study music. I take vocal jazz with Ike Jenkins and I have improved a lot in that class, not only techniques which help me a lot with singing but also theoretical matters. All the people in vocal jazz love and enjoy the class and they want to take it again for sure. Ike Jenkins is an awesome teacher and musician, and we can be proud to have him!
I pay a lot to study here and I think jazz is something that shouldn’t be lacking in the music department. Unhappily, the vocal jazz course is not currently listed for the spring semester. I am asking for your help to save this course; together we can find a way to not have to cancel this class. Thank you in advance for your efforts. – Chantal Baer, Santa Barbara

Cutting this class out of the schedule is a big mistake. Ike Jenkins is the most wonderful teacher – so helpful and inspiring. I’m taking every vocal class that is offered at SBCC, and I want to let you know that he teaches things that nobody else does. I’m not suggesting that you cut another voice class. The arts are incredibly important. Please, let me know if there is anything I can do to get this class back. – Thea Altman, Santa Barbara
